I was getting a bit anxious trying to escape from work in time so I could ride to the One Man Star Wars gig, which as it turned I arrived at with 2 minutes to spare.. must have used The Force to get there. As it turned out, Charles Ross was worth the effort. From the "da da da daaaa da da da da da da daaaa da da daa da daaaaaaa.." etc. or The 20th Century Fox theme, and his impression of slanted words flying in space, to the end I feel as though nothing important was left out. I was thoroughly entertained throughout, and I am one who has only seen the trilogy maybe twice? I cannot be sure. Ross has seen them more than 400 times, and it shows. I quickly realised that there were a contingent of hardcore Star Wars fans in the audience demonstrated by a recurring recital of the lines of the movies before Charles had arrived at them. I recognised a lot of the scenes of the movies and probably all of "Star Wars: A New Hope"... the best characters
for me were Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Han was a crotch grabbing, egoist and Luke was petulant and pouting.
Throughout the performance many jokes about incest were made and jokes about the continuity of the trilogy. Things like "you're my sister, you are the only woman in the movie". By the end I'm sure he must have been exhausted, there was barely any time to breath for him trying to compress 6 or 7 hours of movie into one hour. One of the funniest, albeit most obvious jokes comes at the end, when he says what we are all thinking. I've probably already said too much. Not sure if the one where Han Solo shoots first in the Cantina Bar or not, maybe one of those die hard Star Wars nerds can help me out. Whether you are a massive Star Wars fan or not, I recommend watching One Man Star Wars. Review by daniel
