Miriam is a in a bit of a situation. You see her husband, the property developer, has gone bust and it's up to his wife, to save the day and cook for the potential clients from Japan...I mean really, daaaarrrrling, what could go wrong?..... This is the setting for a brilliant hour of laugh out loud comedy; Miriam and the Monk Fish. Sophie Kelly is perfect as the Liberal voting trophy wife who slowly unravels in front of us whilst cooking, yes, cooking, live on stage. Miriam, a celebrity chef in her own private TV show, bumbles and manically dishes up culinary disaster after disaster. Bit by bit we realise, Miriam is a woman on the verge of a culinary breakdown and we are all going along for the ride. Our obsessions with food, saving face and materialism are up for ridicule in this highlight of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
