Pretend Paper (hifi) Reviews |
Doesn't a show featuring familiar household items as puppets sound like a riot? It is! The show is billed as family-friendly and yes, much of the humour is juvenile but it's also genius. Packed with gags to appeal to all the family and pop culture references aplenty. I particularly enjoyed a scene involving a Jabba the Hutt-esque mound of jelly devouring chained (but not gold bikini clad) toiletry items. A cereal box mutant caused by a toxic waste spill has a distinctly manga flavour. The Bosco theatre is a great venue for Men of Steel. A small space with amphitheatre-style seating means everyone has a view of the messy action. Sound effects and music are superb and the voices for the puppet characters marvellously silly. Not for the faint-hearted is a gag involving an evil sheep's tongue - vegetarians beware. And another word of warning - don't wear anything dryclean only if you're sitting in the first two rows.
Men of Steel on holiday is showing at the Bosco Theatre, Federation Square.
