An absurdist comedy play, done by 3 indie kids - with surprises. There's 37 characters* in this show - all played by the same three people. A taller man person, then a middle size man one, then a small girl person. Charlie Garber, Nick Coyle, Claudia O'Doherty. They are a creative little bunch of people - I think they even make their own clothes. They are all devilishly pretty - good at telling their stories. At first the audience wasn't sure if we could laugh at them, since they started off so seriously. Seriously weird, and serious. There seems to be lots and lots of clever writing to this show. With a whole bunch of subtle jokes, and interesting monologues. It explored themes of really strange family relationships. Aren't all family relationships strange? They explore the strangest ones ever! Thier myspace page tells how they would like to meet 'The Nanny' - possibly another clue to them loving odd family relationships. The stage props and costumes deserve praise. Hand made clothes, stuffed things, and excellent use of glow in the dark stickers. Very arty-DYI-indie. Were there dance moves? Some of the funniest dance moves I have seen this year! There were also some funny singing parts. Singing parts that fit snugly in with the rest of the show. I saw it on the first night, so I'm sure they will improve it as they go a long. There were a few rough bits, but that didn't detract from the excellent show.
The Glass Boat. At Trades Hall.
* maybe not 37 characters, I couldn't count them all... there were a lot. Review by rene
